Measurement is one of the most important parts when you are creating new products. Measurement will define the pricing structure of the product as well as how it is reported. It is best to set the proper measurement from the beginning when you are creating new product profiles to avoid any possible discrepancies.
Using Weight vs Weight Range:
Weight and weight range products are sold only in grams. Before deciding which measurement to apply, you have to consider the following:
- Only products set as weight can be prepackaged
- Only products set as weight can have strain specific pre-rolls
- You cannot set a specific price for a specific weight outside of the provided weights (1g-1/8oz-1/4oz-1/2oz-1oz)
- Weight range has to be a range (i.e. 1.0g - 1.1g)
- Weight range does not support prepackages or pre-rolls
- Weight range cannot be pushed to the online store (to sync with online store other than Potify.net products must be set as either weight or unit)
- Weight range allows you to set a specific price for a specific weight
Let's look at the examples below to see how the price will be calculated in both cases:
If I set my product measurement as weight and save some prices:
If you are selling 1g of this product, the price will be $12. If your budtender weighs heavy, for example, 1.1g, the price will become $12x1.1=$13.20. You can charge $13.20 for 1.1g or the POS may allow you to sell 1.1g and mark 0.1 for free. In this case, the price will stay at $12 but the sale will be for 1.1g.
What will happen when you sell an amount in between this weight and price, for example, 5g. The math will work the following way: we will calculate your price per gram on the closest lower weight, in this case, 1/8oz for $40. 40/3.5=$11.43/g when I sell an eighth. Now we simply multiply $11.42 by 5 grams which will give us $57.24. Meaning the selling price for 5g will be $57.24.
Similar calculations will occur when you weigh 10g of the product. IndicaOnline will calculate the price per gram in your 1/4oz, and will multiply it by the number of grams you are selling.
This method might not be convenient if you have a lot of transactions like this (you also might weigh heavy on your eighth, i.e. 5g eighth). To eliminate the need to give a discount and to make the total price correct, you might want to use weight ranges.
A weight range allows you to set a specific price for a specific weight. This may be useful when your dispensary operates outside of industry standard weights and will eliminate the need to give discounts when not necessary.
Keep in mind, the ranges cannot overlap.
Using price presets with Weight and Weight Range:
It can be time consuming to create weight pricing for each product. To streamline this process we suggest saving your Weight and Weight range as a preset.
Check the Preset Is Dynamic checkbox to automatically update all products using that preset.
If you save your presets, you can easily apply them to any product profiles. Next time you are creating or editing a product profile you can select the Weight or Weight range preset.
Presets are unique for each measurement. You will not see Weight Range presets if the product is set under Weight or vice versa.
Unit vs Unit Range:
Using units or unit range pricing structure will not limit any functionality like it does with weight ranges. A unit range can be used to sell multiple of the same product at a discount. Look at the example below:
In the Per Unit Range example we will sell one cookie for $10, 2 cookies for $15 and 3 cookies for $25. The way unit range works is: if you sell 4 cookies using this range, the price will be $33.33 ($25/3=$8.33/per cookie when buying 3. $8.33x4cookies= $33.33)
You can also save Unit ad Unit Range as presets similar to weight presets.
